As leaders in the Cider Revolution, we have awarded the first ever Cider of the Year award to Sheppy’s 200. We were inundated with entrants from around the country earlier this year, but our team of cider experts whittled down a shortlist of just eight entries, which we then put to the public vote. The top voted ciders were given their final judgement, with Sheppy’s 200 coming out on top to take home the glory.
Ross Duncan, our Brand Ambassador says “the evening was a great success, with everyone enjoying themselves. It was a real honour for us at The Stable to be able to showcase such a broad and wonderful range of Ciders. The votes overall were very close between the eight shortlisted ciders, but Sheppy’s 200 were crowned the winners of the Stable Cider Awards 2018. Sheppy’s 200 as a cider produces such a well-balanced flavour and with that traditional undertone of tannin just coming through at the end, it makes it a brilliant and enjoyable cider for all.
Huge thanks and well done goes out to Sheppy’s and the other finalists, for making the First Stable Cider Awards a great triumph.”
The eight shortlisted ciders were Hallet’s Draught, Pilton’s Somerset Keeved, Ashridge Cider’s Devon Blush, Sxollie’s Golden Delicious, West Milton Cider Co.’s Lancombe Rising, Sandford Orchards’ St Louis Hopped, Hunts Cider’s Andsome Bay and Sheppy’s 200.
We asked you, our discerning customers, to taste and sample the shortlisted ciders over the course of the summer and cast their votes for their favourite. Votes were tallied in September. The final judging took place at a celebratory event last week at The Stable, Bristol, with the winner crowned amongst a crowd of true cider lovers. Sheppy’s takes home a bespoke trophy carved from apple wood and full bragging rights as the award’s inaugural winners.
Sheppy’s 200 is a Special Edition cider from Sheppy’s, a family business based in Bradford-on-Tone. The business celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2016 and made 200 to honour the occasion. It is available at The Stable’s seventeen locations across the West Country, London, Birmingham and Wales.
